This auction is for a vintage book on Japanese mon, or emblems for families, clans and individuals. We don’t speak Japanese, but a friend-of-a-friend gave us these details: It is published in an antiquated version of the Japanese language; there are two dates mentioned, 2-20-1903 and 2-26-1903, which we assume are the printing dates; printed and published in Kyoto; there are indices listing the emblems by object and name. The book is in fair to good condition with light wear and scuffing to the wraps. The stab-binding cord is broken in two spots but the binding is still stable with all the pages intact. The back cover has a 2” and a 2 ½” tear near the spine and is fragile. There are two edge tears on the last page and a few small edge tears on the pages. The pages are not brittle, but they are delicate. There is a light adhesive remnants from tape that must have been placed over the spine at one time. This is an ex-library copy with the following marks: “Cost 2.35” is written on the cover (very light) and on the two last pages; there is a large name written in pencil on the back cover; There is a “Approved C.S.P.” stamp on the back cover and on 9 pages; there is a “Grand Rapids (Michigan) Public Library 438152” stamp on the inside of the cover; and there is a shelf number in pencil on the first page. Will be shipped carefully boxed read more
