DS9 was still trying to find itself when this ninth Season 1 script was done--and after going over-budget on its pilot, producers and Paramount TV were keen to tell some stories using only those expensive, expansive sets they'd just built. Thus, a show like "Babel'--where the story "maguffin" was not an alien or a enemy ship or entire culture, but a word-mangling virus--was really easy on the budgetAnd here's a great way to see what was going on with all that--drafts and notes!THIS PIECE is ONE script-- a complete, collated "rainbow script" with all color "change pages" added in place while shooting (58 numbered pages) AS SHOT, pages dated 11/25- 12/09), plus title, cast, set list, pronunciation, etc--while the cover still carries the original starter script FINAL DRAFT date of 11/25/92;Plus A BONUS!--Just as handed to me: Not one but TWO extra memo documents , a rarity on all the scripts coming from the Trunk so far:--ONE set of BACKGROUND NOTES memos a day apart, dated 11/30/92 ( 3 pages) and 12/1/92 (2 pages) by the longtime Trek research associate office of Joan Pearce, whose took over HER office from Kellam DeForrest who wrote notes on the TOS scripts in the 60s! (see photo) --and all in the pre-Internet era. All all sent in as faxes. :-)--And a SCIENCE NOTES MEMO (4 pgs) for the episode, dated 11/23/92, from then-science advisor
