If you were to attend the Green River Rendezvous in 1830, one of the most common knives you would find would be the 5" belt knife. These stocky clip points were used by whites and Indians alike for just about anything you would use a knife for. Made by companies like Russell Green River, they had carbon steel blades and untreated Hickory or Ash handles. Great blades, crummy handles. When the handles deteriorated, the Indian or Mountain Man replaced it with whatever material was available. In this case Deer antler. The blade on this knife is 1095HC that has been polished and tempered to 54RC. It measures 5 X 1 1/2 X 1/8. Overall length is around 10 inches. The ferrule is polished brass, and the handle is genuine Deer antler making this knife truly one of a kind. The hand sewn belt sheath is cowhide covered in Deerskin. It is of the Plains Indian style making it authentic to the knife. This is not one of those "Made in China " knives you find at tourist trading posts. This is a 100% handmade knife made by me right in Oklahoma America. So, whether you are a Native American dancer, a re-enactor, or an outdoorsman, this knife will make an authentic addition to your costume and it's pretty handy in the field too.
