Danbury Mint Armada Chess Set This set was produced to mark the 400th anniversary of the Armada setting sail for the port of Lisbon in 1588. Each figure/ship is cast in solid pewter. Every piece, except the rooks, are people or ships that played a part in the battles of the Armada with each English pieces having a red base and the Spanish a black base. Beautifully crafted with incredible detail, the pieces are quite exquisite with Robert Dudley (King) standing 85mm tall, Elizabeth (Queen) being 75mm and the pawns (Ships) at 45mm. The board/base measures 450mm square at its widest point. The board has a hollow base with individual cloth lined storage compartments for each pewter chess piece. The chess board can be reversed and used as a lid to the base which allows the chess set to be stored securely without damage to either board or chess pieces. The chess set is in good condition but the board has scratches. Please see photos.
